Sometimes when you see photos of a wedding, you can instantly see the vibe of the day. In this case, that vibe was FUN- some serious fun! Kristy and David’s wedding, captured by Hawes Photography was a perfect reflection of their fun and quirky personalities.
More from the bride, Kristy:
We are very different, him as a classical musician and me in fashion and our wedding reflected our unique personalities. He was in charge of music and I was in charge of decor. One word can describe our wedding: a party. We are both fun and untraditional people. We wanted our wedding to resemble us and lifestyle.
My Priscilla of Boston dress reminded everyone of Marylyn Monroe’s famous white dress, I never imagined myself in a long dress as I am short and tiny and I would not choose a dress without pockets.
The ceremony was held at our favorite location in Saint Louis, the Saint Louis
Botanical Garden, where we spent many adolescent years together.
Since we had our wedding in Saint Louis, but we wanted a New York City style wedding, we held the cocktail style reception at a loft venue and had live big band music.
We did a fun DIY project in which our guests could stand in front of a camera on a tripod and snap photos wirelessly with a remote. The pictures turned out hysterical and everyone had fun taking them! I then sent the pictures to the guests with their thank you notes.
My advice:
1. Make your wedding fun and unique, not traditional. If you want it to be on the traditional side, please personalize it so that when you look back at pictures, you can see yourself and personality in the details.
2. If you are planning a wedding from a distance like I did, make time to go to where your wedding will be held and meet with vendors. Phone and email is not enough sometimes. Going home for a few days a couple months before the wedding helped immensely. It wasn’t until then that I could actually picture everything coming together and it relieved a lot of my stress.
3. Let your soon to be husband be in charge of at least a couple things. It made him feel useful and he was proud of what he did in the end. I had my doubts, but he came through and he was able to say “I planned that!” to his friends and family.
